Review: IUCN's Time for Biodiversity Business Toolkit

IUCN recently uploaded a 3-fer toolkit on biodiversity business. Check out the "lite" version, the publication "The Time for Biodiversity Business", for a nice introduction to biodiversity businesses, great case studies (22 in all!), and some insights on different aspects of biodiversity business like ecotourism and certification straight from the experts. This part of the toolkit is the easiest on the eyes, and I can see it being a great resource when you need to tell a story about biodiversity business. Like in your next Powerpoint presentation...

...speaking of which, that's the second part of the toolkit, the ppt "A guide to enterprise development for conservation organisations". The slides are a bit word-heavy, but I get their point: they wanted to provide a resource that other people could use, and to do that, they had to provide all the details. A good resource for picking a few key slides, I'd say, and then tweak it with these pointers: Death by Powerpoint and How to Fight It.

And finally, for the geeks out there, the authors captured the information of all of their 60+ interviews in the report on "Lessons learned from building biodiversity businesses for conservation". This is a good resource if you are interested in biodiversity businesses, interested in helping or funding biodiversity businesses, or if you've got the bug to go out and start a biodiversity business yourself. Could be the essence of good training, with some tweaking.

There you go. The toolkit, in a nutshell, is a good resource for telling a story - via the case studies or select slides of the powerpoint--and a good resource for someone in or around the business of setting up biodiversity businesses. Enjoy!
